Flash Gourdon Deals With Defeat
Today’s story is about a young Carbon Patch Kid named Flash Gourdon.
Flash Gourdon was the star athlete of the school, winning awards and Carbon Patch championships. Everyone was inspired by Flash Gourdon and he was the sports savior of the school.
Flash was unbeatable. King of the impossible. He was a All Star in every sport, never losing a match or contest. He was the champion of the school and the Carbon Patch.
One day, Flash Gourdon was challenged to a vine climbing contest by a younger Carbon Patch Kid named Kalea, who was from another school.
Flash Gourdon was so confident that he accepted the challenge. He was sure he would win.
Flash Gourdon started the contest and was doing well until the last few moments. Suddenly, the Kalea was ahead of Flash Gourdon.
Flash Gourdon was stunned and couldn't believe what was happening. He had always been the winner, but now he was the loser.
Flash Gourdon was overwhelmed with emotions. He was sad and started to cry. He had never experienced such emotions before. He didn't know what to do or how to act.
This new feeling of sadness and defeat consumed Flash Gourdon for days and days.
Until one day, Flash Gourdon decided he was done crying about it and feeling sorry about his loss. Instead, he started thinking about how he would learn from his loss and do something about it.
Flash Gourdon started to train harder and practiced more. He also started to consider meditation, something he had never done before.
Another Carbon Patch Kid named Brock Lee heard about Flash Gourdon’s desire to meditate, so Brock Lee set his mind on the idea to do something about it.
Brock Lee tried to find Flash Gourdon, but since they were not companion plants, Brock Lee was worried he couldn’t help because they were not allowed into each other’s Carbon Patch Rows.
Flash Gourdon was struggling and knew Brock Lee could help him with his meditation and mind training. So Flash Gourdon asked Coach Newt Rockney for help. Coach Newt Rockney suggested they video chat their meditation sessions.
“What a great idea coach!” Flash Gourdon said. “I’ll get in touch with Brock Lee and set it up. Thank you coach, I appreciate your help.”
“No problem, see if the Alpha and Beta Gardens are available,” Coach Newt Rockney said. “It means a lot to me that you trusted me enough to ask for help.”
Flash Gourdon got in touch with Brock Lee and they set up their video mediation. Flash Gourdon was in the Beta Garden while Brock Lee was Alpha Garden. They closed their eyes and started to calm and clear their minds.
Brock Lee said in a quiet and calm voice over the video session, "A healthy mind is as important as a healthy body."
Flash Gourdon was determined to win the rematch and he worked hard to improve his mental and physical strength.
Six months later, Flash Gourdon had a rematch against the younger Carbon Patch Kid Kalea who beat him in the vine climbing contest.
Kalea had told everyone about it because the School’s Radiant Rayground was packed with CarbonPatchKids.
Flash Gourdon saw all the other Carbon Patch Kids and instead of creating feelings of being nervous, it created a feeling of focus towards achieving and believing.
This time Flash Gourdon was prepared. Physically and mentally.
Flash Gourdon was eager to win and he visualized his victory in his meditation sessions.
The vine climbing contest began and Flash Gourdon was determined to win. He was focused and he gave it his all.
This time, he was the winner! All the other Carbon Patch Kids cheered as Flash Gourdon crossed the finish vine.
Flash Gourdon learned from his experience. He learned how to become a good sport, to be humble in victory and defeat.
Flash Gourdon also learned how ask for help and use positive mental training.
Flash Gourdon was now an even better athlete. He was not only physically strong, but also mentally strong. He was the vine climbing champion of the school once again.
Flash Gourdon’s loss taught him what determination and hard work could do. He shared with everyone the importance of sportsmanship and positive mental training.
Flash Gourdon was more than an All Star and Savior of the School, he was a Carbon Patch Kid, with a Carbon Patch Kid’s courage.
